JAMSU , FACE SLAPPING AND SKIN BAKING
Zero-Product Korean Beauty And Skincare Techniques:
Wait, what? Slapping, skin baking ..? As in, actually baking
one’s skin? And jamsu? What even is that? Actually yes! Hold on a bit, by the
time you are done reading this post you will realize that there is a method to
this madness.
I know, while some of you may know what I am talking about
but a few must still be horrified or at least alarmed by the concept of skin “baking”
or face slapping and confused by jamsu altogether.
In either case, we’re here to clear up number of mysteries
surrounding these odd sounding yet somehow “viral” beauty concepts. Courtesy to
extremely popular Korean 10 Steps Skincare Routine Have a look at "Dermacos - Facial Skin Care", we now have a whole market
of K-beauty that all the high end brands are seemingly in competition to court.
K-beauty which is essentially a classification of Korean beauty products and
its near revolutionary influence on our skincare and makeup routines.
Korean women devote an almost ritualistic dedication to
their extensive skincare regimens; girls from very young age adopt impressive
skincare procedures by observing their mothers following meticulous routines so
it’s no wonder they actually have the kind of flawless skin we all dream about.
Unlike western beauty and skincare products, Korean beauty or Korean skincare
routine comprises mostly of natural, gentle ingredients than regular harsh
chemical formulation we’re fobbed off with.
The rise of Korean skincare is not the only notion keeping
top beauty brand on their toes. Korean makeup has been one of the most
innovative categories of recent times, they’re said to be 10-12 years ahead of
rest of the world’s leading cosmetic brands.
Cat Koh, Korean makeup artist once said that “In other parts of the
world, women want to look more sexy and mature than women in Korea, however, in
Korea we love looking young”. Doesn’t that say all about preferred composition
of Korean beauty products?
Korean beauty industry experiments with unique, naturally
obtained ingredients, that frankly make one cringe at first, like snail mucin
or real pearls or bee venom. Results though, put all the doubts to rest. From
butter-smooth highlighters to cushion blushes to dewy foundations, all contributing
towards Glass Skin (yet another popular Korean skincare routine to achieve luminous,
pore-less and clear as glass skin) effect. Read here: You Glow Girl
Traditionally, for women in Korea makeup is not about
layering your face with more products than you can count but about skin
preserving methods and makeup skills. In the last few years social media has
been swamped with rather bizarre Korean beauty hacks. In this article, we’re
taking you through three most widely held (by not only Korean women but women
everywhere who have tried) beauty techniques.
JAMSU
Jamsu more or less means “submerge” and it is just that! Dunking your makeup-madeup face in cold water. A Korean makeup hack that promises to give your makeup flawless matte finish that lasts all day long without needing a retouch.
So what you do is, carry on as usual with your makeup
routine of primer, foundation and concealer (even brows and contour), then coat
your face thoroughly with baby powder (setting and translucent powders would do
too) and plunge into a bowl of cold water for 20 to 30 seconds (make sure to
get every powdered spot properly submerged in water) to seal it. You can then
gently pat dry or wait until your face is completely air dried before brushing
off any white patches you may find. And there! That is all Jamsu Korean beauty secret
to perfectly matte skin is about, conclude rest of the makeup and enjoy
flawless finish whole day.
FACE SLAPPING
Regardless of widely accepted benefits, I don’t think
getting your face slapped can be anything but horrifying but fortunately this
face slapping Korean skincare routine is nothing what it sounds like.
DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES AND THEIR HANDY TONIC
DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES AND THEIR HANDY TONIC
It is
more about brisk, light slaps to put skincare products onto your face, slaps
rather than circular motions (we have been told to follow over the years) said
to improve blood circulation, firm up facial muscles, shrink pores, keep
wrinkles at bay and help skin absorb product better, which in turn makes your
skin smooth and radiant. Either that or give your face 50 gentle slaps right
after finishing your daily skincare regimen.
SKIN BAKING
Yet another weird Korean beauty hack where you don’t exactly
bake your skin to nice crispy texture, but in fact utilize your face heat to
set basic makeup in a way that remains impeccable whole day long (objective is
quite similar to that of Jamsu’s).
So, how exactly do you bake your face? Well, the
similarities to Jamsu are not ending just yet because up until conceal part you
do your usual makeup routine as you did in Jamsu makeup technique, from there
the baking starts. Use damp makeup sponge to top up the parts of your face you
want to highlight (no shimmer highlighting of course, just to brighten up) like
under eyes, cheek bone, jaw bone, brow bone, chin and nose with thick coats of
finely milled setting powder and let it sit for 10 minutes before gently
dusting the excess powder off with fluffy makeup brush. And your makeup is
baked! But don’t step away without sculpting your features to perfection with
much needed contour. All and all its seems to be especially useful technique for SUMMER MAKEUP routine.
